New York fish recalled over botulism concerns
19 June – US-based Euphoria Fancy Food is recalling Russia-manufactured dried bream over concerns that the fish products could be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores, which can cause botulism.
The recall was initiated after inspectors from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets discovered during a routine inspection that the fish was not properly eviscerated prior to processing.
“The sale of this type of fish is prohibited under New York State Agriculture and Markets regulations because Clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish. Un-eviscerated fish has been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning,” said a recall notice posted by the firm.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, the notice added.
