Australian popped grain specialists Real Foods says consumer health and convenience demands led it to develop a new Corn Thins mini bites range that is now available in Woolworths supermarkets.

The firm says consumers in APAC are spending more on healthy and convenient snack products due to busy lifestyles and increasing awareness of eating well. This is driving demand for clean wholesome snacks.

“Consumers have been asking for a mini snack product for years,” said Madeleine Anderson, Marketing Manager at Real Foods. “We just wanted to develop something different to what is already on the market, that tastes fantastic, is a healthier option and available at an affordable price.”

Popcorn in the form of crisp bread

Corn Thins are made from individual grains of Australian-grown corn, which are popped using a unique conduction-heated popping process with little to no oil added. While the corn is being popped, it is pressed and crafted into a thin disc shape such that it resembles crisp bread.

The Minis are made the same way. Anderson described them as wavy and slightly puffed, about the size of a rice cracker.

Not only do Minis have a naturally appealing popcorn flavour, but they also contain higher levels of fibre than most snacks, making them a healthier choice for snacking.

Healthy indulgence

Apart from the original flavour, the Minis are also available in Cheddar and Sour Cream & Chives. Real Foods saw that it was fitting to launch the Minis in these two flavours as they are familiar and well-loved by consumers. These are just the first two flavours in the range and there are plans to develop more in the future.

“The base flavour of popcorn combined with either Cheddar or Sour Cream & Chives is sure to stand out among consumers. The texture is light and crunchy too, making it a very moreish snack when eating on its own or with dips. Plus, they are Non-GMO and gluten-free,” said Anderson.

Packed conveniently in handy sealed bags, Corn Thins Minis are suitable for snacking on the go.

Currently, the Cheddar and Sour Cream & Chives flavours are available at Woolworths stores in New South Wales. The Minis are sold only sold in New Zealand and New South Wales for now, but Real Foods aims to roll out the range across Australia within the next 12 months. They hope to distribute internationally as quickly as possible after that.
