Regulations in China
4. Traceability
With China playing home to a multibillion-dollar industry in counterfeiting, adulteration, tampering, relabelling and using illegal ingredients, food authorities have put in place more rigorous measures to limit such activities through its food safety law.
“Article 42 establishes the first legal precedent for mandatory implementation of traceability systems in China's food industry, however full scale implementation of practically useful traceability systems is still likely to take several years to a decade,” says O’Brien.
In the meantime Chemlinked, alongside its partner, Authenticateit, is looking to position itself and clients that import foodstuffs to China ahead of future regulatory trends, O’Brien adds.
