Too much of a good thing: Vitamin B6 bust
France reported supplements with vitamin B6 content of 1.82 g/100g.
A 2000 report from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA – then SCF) concluded Tolerable Upper Intake Levels (UL) of 25 mg per day for adults. This ranged from 5-20 mg per day for children aged 1-17 years.
The origin of the product was unknown, but it seems it passed through the Netherlands.
A similar case of too high levels of vitamin B6 cropped up in Sweden this month with products from Belgium.
