China
Melamine-tainted yoghurt
Days later, police seized almost 12 tonnes of yoghurt candy that had been tainted by melamine at the end of July. The chemical is well known to Chinese consumers as the industrial chemical at the centre of a 2008 scandal in which six infants died and thousands were made sick.
Guangdong police discovered the stock during a routine sweep then made arrests. It found that the operation was widespread across China, though they did not reveal if the product had been distributed to consumers.
