Kai Jia Chua, professional care & development manager at Alpro Pharmacy, will be presenting the topic “Eating Smart in a Carb-Heavy World: Sustainable Approaches to Glycaemic Control” on the second day of the summit on July 9.
Alpro Pharmacy is a outlet chain with over 300 outlets across East and West Malaysia, as well as presence in nearly 200 outlets in Indonesia.
Last year, the chain also launched Malaysia’s first diabetic-friendly sourdough and a series of low-GI food, which are formulated by Chua.
During her presentation, she would outline whether low-GI and slowly digestible carbohydrates offer better long-term sustainability and real-world adherence to low-carb diets, as well as how to improve carbohydrate quality with slowly digestible fibres.
This is also the first time that the pharmacy chain is participating and speaking at the summit.
The summit takes place in Singapore on July 8 to 10 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Book your tickets here.
Chua will also be joined by BYHEALTH’s Head of Marketing Kelvin Zhang, who will focus on how metabolic disruption can lead to a rise in cortisol levels, in turn causing weight gain, insomnia and stress, and how the company is tackling these issues with its upcoming new product launch in China.
GLP-1 and fruits for metabolic health in the spotlight
Other confirmed speakers presenting on weight management and metabolic health are David Foreman, pharmacist, author, and speaker at Herbal Pharmacist and Dr Suman Mishra, Science Team Leader at the New Zealand Institute for Bioeconomy Science.
Foreman will be presenting the topic “GLP-1 Health Benefits and the Role Nutraceutical Ingredients Play”. Key takeaways from his presentation include the role of gut microbiota in influencing GLP-1 secretion and the types of health supplements that can naturally stimulate GLP-1 levels.
Dr Mishra, on the other hand, will highlight the numerous properties of fruits in supporting healthy metabolism.
For example, she will illustrate how fruit structure, composition, and its influence on digestion could help to reduce blood glucose spikes and the metabolic benefits of dietary fiber.
The three-day program
The three-day summit will cover the hottest themes trending in Asia-Pacific’s health and nutrition sector, including Protein and Healthier Product Innovation, Infant and Childhood Nutrition, Maternal and Women’s Health, Active Nutrition and Healthy Ageing and Healthspan Advances.
This year will also feature a Start-Up Showcase on day one, where we will turn our attention to some of the most exciting emerging entrepreneurs from across the region and their innovations.
