Qatari dairy company Baladna to expand to Malaysia
The collaboration agreed with Malaysia’s state-owned FELCRA Berhad and agriculture company FGV Holdings aims to produce 100m liters of fresh milk within the first year of operation, pending the satisfactory completion of a feasibility study.
Baladna said the MoC is a key step forward in its international expansion plans, which include replicating what the company said is its achievement in shifting Qatar from a milk import dependent country to self-sufficiency.
Baladna said it will jointly invent in an integrated dairy farm in the town of Chuping in Perlis, which borders Thailand and is Malaysia’s smallest state. The initial focus is to establish a dairy herd of 10,000 cows.
The companies aim to reduce Malaysia’s reliance on dairy imports, and to support the local communities.
Malaysian agricultural land will be utilized to produce most of the required animal feed, and the JV farm will be used as a hub to support small rural farms.
