Global MNC PepsiCo, Japanese beverage giant Kirin, personalised nutrition pioneers TCI Gene and New Zealand's government-funded High Value Nutrition Challenge will all be sending speakers to the second Healthy Ageing APAC Summit, taking place in Singapore this July.

They will join previously announced speakers from major players Nestlé and BioCeuticals / Blackmores, as well as supplement innovators Elixinol and cell-based protein start-up Shiok Meats.

Organised by FoodNavigator-Asia and NutraIngredients-Asia, the summit will take place at the Hilton hotel on Orchard Road between July 9 and 11 and assess the nutrition and food solutions to Asia-Pacific’s population challenges

The Asia-Pacific region is currently home to about 60 per cent of the world’s population of older people, defined as those aged 60 years or older.

And the number of older persons in the region is expected to more than double from 600 million in 2018 to nearly 1.3 billion by 2050.

This means the demand for nutrition and food products suitable for the elderly population will soar, while younger people are increasingly aware that the nutrition and health choices they make today will affect their quality of life in older age.

This event will look at how the nutrition and food industry can meet the needs of the ageing population of today, and make products more healthy for the generations which will be the senior citizens of tomorrow.

Important issue

Editor-in-Chief of both titles, and Regional Head of APAC for publisher William Reed, Gary Scattergood said: “We are delighted to announce that the event will be attended by a raft of great speakers from so many leading brands, which really goes to show how important this issue is.

“Last year’s event was hugely successful in shining the spotlight on the efforts food and nutrition companies are making to promote healthy changes across all life stages.

“The overwhelming consensus was that healthy ageing begins from conception, and that food and nutrition can play a pivotal role in ensuring we ultimately lead healthier, as well as longer lives.”

We can today confirm that the 2019 summit will be addressed by PepsiCo’s R&D Global External Innovation Lead of Academic Partnership Dr Siow Ying Tan.

She is responsible for carrying out global open innovation activities and future strategy

Dr Tan will be joined by Dr Daisuke Fujiwara, Deputy Director of Kirin’s Business Creation Department and Dr Chan Shu Ting the Chief Supervisor of the Nutrigenomic Department at TCI Gene.

We are also pleased to announce that Joanne Todd, Challenge Director at New Zealand’s High Value Nutrition Challenge, will also present at the event.

High-Value Nutrition is the New Zealand National Science Challenge with the mission to grow the science excellence and knowledge the nation needs to create and deliver healthy food to the world. It is hosted by the University of Auckland and funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

They will all join the previously announced speakers:

Dr Jörg Hager, Genetics Lead, Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences

Belinda Reynolds, director of research, product development and emerging markets, BioCeuticals

Joy Beckerman, Regulatory Officer and Industry Liaison, Elixinol

Sandhya Sriram, CEO, Shiok Meats.

Last year’s event was attended by over 170 delegates from across the globe, with 90% revealing in a feedback survey that it met or exceeded their expectations. 85% said it added significant value to their business.

The 2019 event has already received sponsorship backing from our valued partners Gencor, Beneo, Rousselot and Fitoplancton.
