DuPont Nutrition & Health has announced the opening of its new innovation center in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, later this summer.

The 700m2 center – the largest in Japan among international ingredient companies – will deliver cross-functional solutions to Japanese and Korean customers primarily in the bakery, beverage and dairy industries.

Customers will work directly with DuPont scientists to develop solutions using its range of customized system blends and dietary supplements.

“This innovation center is designed to give our customers a deeper involvement in the development process, which will help us deliver the exact solutions they’re pursuing in a much shorter time span,” said Kobus de Klerk, global innovation leader, Nutrition & Health.

State-of-the-art

The centre houses a high-tech bakery lab equipped to produce various breads and rolls, steamed cakes and donuts. Similarly, the dairy area will be capable to make various types of yogurts, fermented drinks, beverages and ice creams.

The micro-testing lab will be outfitted to conduct stability tests on the enumeration of probiotics with prototypes of customers’ products formulated with strains from DuPont Danisco. Finally, the dry blend lab will feature a granulator, compressed table machine and revolving pan to create customized system blends.

Foods for seniors

According to Nobuaki Tsukagoshi, Japan sales leader, Nutrition & Health, the real focus of the facility will be on delivering solutions to solve market challenges.

“Japan has the world’s oldest population. This innovation center will also serve as a hub for senior food development that will allow other markets to leverage on our strong innovation capabilities, especially in the senior foods space,” he said.
