New show aims to boost Japan's food exports
The Japanese government is backing moves to boost food exports by supporting a new trade show – Japan’s Food Export Fair – being held next month in Chiba.

The show is strongly supported by the Japanese Government, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is the co-organiser of the show and will  support on-site business between overseas visitors and Japanese exhibitors.

“We expect this show to achieve JPY 1 trillion in exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products by 2019, set by MAFF,” said  Tad Ishizumi, president of co-organiser Reed Exhibitions Japan Ltd.

“In five years, we are planning to gather 2,500 exhibitors and 30,000 buyers, and make the exhibition as the Asia’s largest food export fair.”

Around 300 exhibitors and 20,000 products are expected to be showcased at the inaugural event.

Exhibitors will feature everything from  agri-food, meat and seafood, to confectionery, snacks, seasoning and beverage products.

More than  6,000 international buyers/importers from 70 countries are due to attend..

A hosted buyers programme will see 1,000 buyers from major importers, supermarkets, restaurants and department stores attend the event.

The organisers added: “For exhibitors and visitors to have a successful business meeting at the show, exhibitors must have information in both English and Japanese, interpreters at the booth, and set of tables and chairs for business meetings. Therefore, international buyers will be meeting with exhibitors who will be prepared and ready to talk business.”

The event takes place from October 11 to 13 at Makuhari Messe, Japan
