New Zealand mānuka honey brand Manukora has launched a new firm to target b2b sales in the functional food and supplement space.

Manukora has seen sales for its branded products soar in recent years, as the health benefits of mānuka have become better understood by consumers, and is now shipping to 13 countries.

New Zealand’s honey exports currently stand at around $300m, with the growing popularity of mānuka — especially across Asia — driving a large percentage of that growth.

Now a government and industry partnership aims to increase the annual value of the nation’s mānuka honey industry to $1.2 billion by 2028.

In order to tap into the growth opportunities, Manukora has established Ora Foods to provide mānuka ingredients to supplement and functional food brands.

We met up with Ora Foods CEO Mike Bell at Vitafoods Asia to assess the growth of New Zealand’s mānuka honey industry, and the potential for innovation using the ingredient in the supplement space.
