Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Australian arm is branching into home delivery.

The fast food chain already offers a home delivery option in selected restaurants in countries including the US and the UK. KFC Australia’s move will help it compete against competition from chicken restaurant Red Rooster, which offers its own delivery service, and schemes such as Deliveroo which delivers orders to homes on behalf of several restaurants.

The trial will initially involve just one store in Sydney, New South Wales, but will later include an additional eight.

‘Logical next step’

Consumers are looking for ways to make life easier and delivery is a logical next step for KFC Australia,” said Nikki Lawson, managing director.

We are launching a one-store test in partnership with Foodora to bring delivery to our Manly KFC restaurant in the next two to three weeks. A further eight restaurants in various states will be launched at a future date.”

Once the trial has been fine-tuned, there are plans to make KFC home delivery an option throughout the country.

We believe delivery in Australia comes with big responsibilities,” added Lawson. “Once we are satisfied we can meet our people, food quality, operational and financial obligations we will be delighted to roll out delivery nationally.”
