Thailand will ask Japan to increase import quotas for foodstuffs including cooked pork, when officials from the two countries meet later this month.

According to a report in the Bangkok Post, Sirinart Chaimun, director-general of the Trade Negotiations Department, said Thailand would ask Japan to raise the import quota for cooked pork from 1,200 to 12,000 tonnes.

The quota is currently taxed at 16%, increasing to 20% for imports above the agreed quota, according to the report.
