Japan awards first patent to resveratrol for sleep improvement
Melinjo resveratrol has become the first product in Japan to receive a patent in Japan for sleep improvement.

The national patent is supported by human clinical data demonstrating the ingredient’s ability to improve the quality of sleep quality compared to placebo.

This is the first time in Japan that a natural sleep aid has been patented following a series of clinical trials. Single dosage of 14mg taken before deep sleep considerably improved the feeling of being well rested among the subjects, Lion said.

Brain wave measurements and sleep observations showed a high delta rhythm power value in early stages of sleep, giving a sufficient improvement in non-REM sleep, when it is most important to achieve a good quality of sleep, experts say.

Japanese conglomerate Lion’s Hosoda Nutritional arm is the only producer globally for Melinjo resveratrol. Shinya Hosoda, Hosoda’s chief executive said: “In the past 10 years we have created the needed infrastructure for sourcing and production and are now able to offer the product in high quality from our secure supply chain. We see natural sleep supplements as a growing category.”
