Thailand’s Public Health Ministry is hoping to boost the average height and life expectancy of its population through a campaign to encourage milk consumption.

According to reports, people in Thailand drink just 14 litres of milk each per year, compared the global average of 103.9 litres.

Speaking at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation’s (FAO) World Milk Day earlier this week, Thailand’s deputy public health minister, Cholanan Srikaew, said that the campaign could boost the average height of 18-year old Thai men and women from 167cm and 157cm respectively, to 175cm and 162cm.

The campaign could also extend life expectancy in the country to 80, he added.
