Danone goes local in India with Lassi

Innovating to cater to a more local taste, French dairy giant, Danone, last week entered the packaged lassi segment in India.

Lassi, a popular and traditional yogurt-based drink of the Indian subcontinent, joins Danone’s current Indian product range of smoothies, set curd, flavoured yoghurts and nutritional drinks.

The product will be available in three flavours - Sweetened, Masala and Mango, priced at 15 rupees, and sold across Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Jochen Ebert, MD, Danone India, said: “In a country like India, where taste and nutrition go hand in hand, it was imperative that we launch a product, which was affordably priced. With the evolving Indian consumer desiring to pick up healthy yet easy to consume products on the go that are also affordably priced, Danone Lassi is specially packaged and offers something new and innovative to consumers.”
