Puratos opens R&D centre in Japan

An innovation centre in Japan will ensure the necessary R&D needed to allow bakery specialists Puratos to tap into the local market, the Belgian multinational has said.

The facility, in the city of Osaka, will be focused on research into consumer insights and tastes, enabling the group to tailor production to local requirements.

It will also provide a platform for local customers to gain insight and expertise into these local requirements for the bakery sector.

Daniel Malcorps, CEO of the Puratos Group, previously told our sister site BakeryandSnacks.com: “Bakery and patisserie are not global products. Bread is part of the culture of all countries, but we need to adapt to meet local needs.”

Between 2002 and 2007 the group has increased R&D spend from 1.5% to 2.75% of turnover.
