FrieslandCampina Domo invests €130m to meet Asian infant nutrition boom
Growing demand for infant nutrition products in the Asian region have spurred Dutch dairy group FrieslandCampina Domo to splash €130m to upgrade two of its plants with completion expected by November 2013.

A company spokesperson said the expansion was part of its route2020 strategic vision which had infant-child nutrition as one of four pillars – the others being corporate responsibility; dairy beverages and cheese.

FrieslandCampina Domo said the upgrades were also in part down to unspecified quality demands from existing clients as well as expected regulatory changes for infant food product manufacturers.

The upgrades, when completed in 2013, will double the output of its “four or five” infant formula ingredients, the most popular being demineralised whey.

The company, which has been active in infant nutrition for 75 years, will spend €100m on its plant in Beilen and €30m on its Bedum facility, both in the north of the Netherlands.

Herman Ermens, the managing director of FrieslandCampina Domo said: “These investments will allow us to help our customers achieve long-term growth in infant nutrition.”
