Alfa Laval announced it has secured a SEK 100m (€11m) contract to supply equipment to an Indian baby food company as demand for processed products continues to grow.

The Sweden-based firm said delivery of the complete processing line is due for 2013 and includes a variety machines for mixing, heating and cooling operations, such as heat exchangers and a large amount of flow equipment.

“This order confirms the growing demand for prepared food applications driven by the increasing living standard in fast-growing economies – where India is one good example”, said company president and CEO Lars Renström.

Alfa Laval indicated that the scope for growth in processed baby food in India was huge as the country has around 159m children up to the age of six, accounting for 13 per cent of the population. About a quarter of the children live in urban areas, added the firm, citing Indian census office figures.
