According to media reports, Archers Daniels Midland (ADM), worth $81bn, could acquire Noida-based Geepee Agri Private Ltd, a major Indian edible oil maker.

Geepee Agri Private Ltd is currently majority owned by Thailand’s GP Group and Rabo Private Equity and has two integrated soybean crushing plants in Akola, Rajasthan. ADM operates more than 265 processing plants and more than 330 sourcing facilities in more than 75 countries on six continents.

ADM does already operate within India through a joint venture with the Delhi-based Tina Oils and Chemicals Ltd. but this acquisition could give it an independent stronghold in India and boost its expansion and global reach strategy.

Neither party was willing to comment on the deal.
