Symrise expands in Asia with new spray drying plant
The company said its new pilot spray bed dryer plant will allow it to develop next-generation spray bed dried products for its clients in Asia Pacific.
Spray bed drying, which is one of the firm’s core flavour encapsulation technologies, is said to create particle distribution that results in better flowability, less dusting and good stability.
Asian focus
According to Dr Heinz-Juergen Bertram, Symrise global president, Flavor & Nutrition, introducing the new technology into the Asian market is in line with Symrise’s “aggressive growth strategy in the region”.
“The market launch in Asia is consistent with our strategy of making our core technologies available in all four of our core regions,” he said.
This latest investment in the region follows previous expansion at Symrise’s Singapore site, which is the firm’s regional headquarters for the Asia-Pacific region.
Last year saw it kick off a new major investment project for the area, with the opening of a sensory analysis and consumer insights centre at the facility, as well as a new laboratory facility.
The latest move highlights the importance of the Asia region for the company, it said today.
More expansion
“Our objective is to continue expanding the site over the next two years,” said Declan MacFadden, regional president Asia Pacific.
“We have planned additional investments to help us achieve this goal: full automation of liquid compounding, large scale SBD, a new manufacturing process for reaction flavorings and plans to up-scale the powder blending facilities. We will also install state-of-the-art emission control technologies to eliminate any environmental impact.”
As well as its Asia and Middle East (EAME) regional centre, Symrise has parallel regional centres for Europe, North America and South America.
The company said it also has plans to expand its encapsulation options and capacities in the US this year. In addition, it is currently investing in a new plant at its corporate headquarters in Holzminden, Germany.
