Executives suspended
Bharti Walmart suspends five top executives in November 2012 as part of an ongoing investigation against alleged corrupt practices that Wal-Mart has launched globally in countries including Mexico and Brazil. The suspensions were to ensure "a complete and thorough investigation." The following month, the government announces in investigation into Wal-Mart’s reported disclosure to the US Senate that since 2008 it had spent around US$25m on lobbying that included “enhanced market access for investment in India”. Lobbying is considered a corrupt practice in India.
