Chinese demand for food emulsifiers is expected to witness strong
growth over the next few years as food processors increase their
usage to meet growing demand in the country for low-fat foods,
according to new research.
Increased meat and fat consumption, and lower grain and vegetable
intake has left 60 million urban residents in China overweight and
160 million with high blood pressure, according to a report
released at the weekend.
Australia's government will work with industry to reduce trans
fatty acids in Australian food, it announced this week, despite
figures that suggest intake of the fats among the population is
within safe limits.
Enzymotec, the Israeli company which develops lipid-based
ingredients for the nutraceuticals and functional foods markets, is
hoping to take advantage of a perceived demand for healthy cooking
oils in the Asia Pacific region.
