Following a record year of beef exports to Korea in 2016, Australia is looking to defend its position amidst contracting supply and competition from the US.
Asian markets outside of China, notably South Korea and Japan, were the biggest buyers of US beef in July, according to trade data from the US Meat Export Federation.
Australian beef exports will continue to gain pace over the rest of the year, boosted by drought, emerging market demand and a more favourable currency, according to Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).
Australia has reported another record-beating year for red meat exports to the Middle East and North African region (MENA), while beef exports to the EU hit their highest level for a decade.
