Japan and Portugal have signed a memorandum of cooperation to work together on food safety.

The Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSCJ) and the Economic and Food Safety Authority of the Portuguese Republic (ASAE) will promote mutual scientific cooperation on data collection methodologies and sharing related to risk assessment.

It was signed by Pedro Portugal Gaspar, inspector general of the Economic and Food Safety Authority of the Portuguese Republic and Hiroshi Satoh chairperson food safety commission of Japan.

ASAE and FSCJ will provide mutual support and cooperation in line with relevant laws and regulations.

The cooperation is initially for five years when it will be re-assessed and will continue for the same period unless one of the agencies terminates it.

ASAE and FSCJ will each appoint a contact point and an evaluation meeting will be held periodically to summarize progress on cooperation.
