20-year-old Chinese distributor Shanghai Freemen has opened an office in The Hague in the Netherlands as its European business expands.

The firm has not shied away from concerns about the quality of some channels in the Chinese supply chain, and emphasises its quality control procedures that enable it to operate in the European and American spheres.

“With China being one of the biggest distributors of raw materials, and where in many cases quality of the materials has proven to be questionable, it is companies like Shanghai Freemen who make a difference…” the company said.

It said all its materials were “carefully inspected” at its Shanghai lab and “up to European standards and certifications.”

Shanghai Freemen chose partnerships with large Chinese suppliers like Chongqing Joywin Natural which manufactured to pharmaceutical grade Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions.

Shanghai Freemen Europe as the new entity is known will exhibit at Food Ingredients Europe in Paris in December to showcase a portfolio that includes amino acids, herbals, sweeteners, excipients, vitamins and minerals and food additives.

It has offices in the US and Japan.
