More than seven in 10 of senior Asia-Pacific food executives polled said food safety would have the biggest impact on consumer preference this year.

The opinion poll, conducted by Food Industry Asia, group of leading food and beverage companies in Asia-Pacific, found that food safety was seen as more critical than sustainable sourcing, genetically modified Ingredients, health and wellness and price.

It set out to assess issues that would have the greatest impact on consumer preference in Asia over the coming year.

Food safety is a basic right and consumers should be able to trust the food that they buy to feed themselves and their children,” said Iain McLaughlin, Coca-Cola’s Asean head.

People want a better, deeper understanding of where their food is coming from and what has been used during the process of growing it.”
