Asia cocoa grind up 5%
The amount of cocoa processed in Asia in the second quarter (Q2) grew 5.21%, according to figures from the Cocoa Association of Asia.

161,805 metric tons (MT) of cocoa was processed in the region during the quarter compared to 153,792 MT in the same period last year.

Jonathan Parkman, joint head of Agriculture at Marex Financial previously said that analysts were expecting a rise in Asia due to increased capacity in Indonesia, the region’s premier cocoa producer.

Barry Callebaut last year opened a plant in Indonesia in a joint venture with Comextra. Cargill  In December, Cargill will open a 70,000 MT capacity cocoa facility in East Java.

The Q2 cocoa grind grew in North America by 4.52%​ to 131,737 MT, while European figures dropped 1%​ to 307,938 MT.
