New Zealand farmer scoops steak accolade
New Zealand farmer Colin Brown has won a prestigious competition to find the country’s most tender and tasty sirloin steak.
The Cambridge farmer came runner up in 2009 for the Supreme Brand award with his Lake Farm Beef company, which this year went to AngusPure (Wilson Hellaby).
Brown said: "Winning this competition is a significant achievement. It brings together the pasture to plate story, highlighting farmer commitment to creating the best product for their consumers."
The 20 steaks in the final were judged on criteria including aroma, texture, flavour, tenderness and juiciness.
Best of Breed awards were won by Malcolm Entwisle from Te Kauwhata with his Simmental processed at AgResearch Ruakura, and Leeston’s Tony Partridge, for his Charolais/Angus cross processed by Ashburton Meat Processors.
