China reports another bird flu victim
Another man has fallen ill with avian influenza H7N9 in China, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed.
The WHO said that China’s National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) notified it of the case, a 67-year-old farmer from the Zhejiang Province. The WHO said the man “had contact with live poultry” and was in “critical condition” in hospital.
To date, a total of 137 human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) have been laboratory-confirmed on China’s mainland, including Zhejiang (48 cases), Shanghai (33 cases), Jiangsu (28 cases), Jiangxi (six cases), Fujian (five cases), Anhui (four cases), Henan (four cases), Shandong (two cases), Hunan (two cases), Beijing (two cases), Hebei (one case) and Guangdong (one case). There has also been one case in Taiwan.
