Anthrax detected in Indonesia
More than 100 cattle and buffaloes have died in two Indonesian villages, following infection with anthrax.
The infection, in Laikang and Punaga in Takalar regency – the South Sulawesi province of Indonesia, has been confirmed by the laboratory of veterinary agency in Maros, also in the South Sulawesi province.
The test results in the laboratory discovered the bacteria that cause anthrax, bacillus anthracis, in the spleen and blood samples of the animals.
The government of Takalar regency stated: “In the last two months, more than 100 head of cattle and buffalo died in Laikang and Punaga village.”
The authorities have now issued a circular letter to isolate cattle and buffaloes in the villages to prevent the spread of anthrax infection to other villages.
