Vitamin Angels and DSM target Indian vitamin A deficiency

Vitamin charity Vitamin Angels and DSM’s Sight and Life are addressing vitamin A deficiency in Indian children by establishing a sustainable supply and distribution system promoting “local ownership” of the deficiency problem.

It is estimated there about 200m Indian children between the age of six months and five years in India who are vitamin A deficient, with more than 500m vitamin A deficient children globally.

While the Government of India fully supports initiatives for vitamin A supplementation and a large proportion of infants, children and lactating women receive supplementation, there remains a significant portion of the population that have yet to be reached,”​ the two partners said.

DSM and Vitamin Angels said they hoped to engaged other partners including Indian and international companies and non-profits. These would, harness innovative public-private partnerships to sustainably tackle the vitamin A deficiency epidemic in India and improve the lives of millions of infants, children and women.”
