The US-China Health Products Association has created a historical chart mapping China's State Food and Drug Administration's (SFDA) registration approvals for dietary supplements between the years 1996 and 2012.
As the chart shows, the total number of registrations has fluctuated over the years and clearly shows the huge discrepancy between domestic and foreign approvals.
At the end of 2012, the association met with the SFDA to discuss the future outlook for dietary supplements. During that meeting, the SFDA made it clear it was looking to decrease the total number of registrations given out for both domestic and foreign companies by close to 50%.
