Hydrocyanic acid forces recall of Tapioca chips
Resmi International has recalled Manjilas Tapioca Chips Spicy in Australia due to high levels of hydrocyanic acid.
The Tapioca chips come in a 180g clear plastic packet and were distributed in Indian supermarkets in Queensland.
Hydrocyanic acid is a solution of hydrogen cyanide in water and is a poisonous weak acid also called prussic acid.
The products, which originated in India, have an expiry date of 14/7/2015.
In a past incident, Resmi International recalled Grandma’s Tapioca Chips and Manjilas Tapioca Chips Spicy due to high levels of naturally occurring cyanide in cassava containing tapioca chips.
The 2011 recall affected Indian grocery stores in New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland.
