Blendhub Corp. has set up its third Portable Powder Blending plant (PPB) in Mexico, after Spain and India, as it plans to open 40 factories in the next three years claiming processed food sales will reach $8trillion in 2016.

The factory is based on an agreement between Treepak and Premium Ingredients Mexico who will jointly operate the PPB, establishing themselves in the Latin American food market utilising local raw materials such as starches, caseinates, proteins and silicates.

Food Powder Blends marketed as final products mixed with water or other ingredients

Henrik Stamm Kristensen, founder/CEO, Blendhub Corp. told FoodProductionDaily it plans to set up PPBs all over the world including Ireland, Malaysia, UK, Iran, Brazil, Australia, Kenya, Algeria, Lithuania and two new ones in México and India.

Food Powder Blends are present in all processed food. Stabilizers, emulsifiers, texturizers, colors and flavors are used to produce food applications such as processed cheese, beverages, yoghurts, creams, processed meat, sauces and dressings,” he said.

Processed food is a growing, $8tn business by 2016. It has been growing with a 2.1% CAGAR, outpacing population growth.

In many cases Food Powder Blends are marketed as final products that are mixed with water or other ingredients, for beverages or soups for example. This is the case of our Almospray 10 which mixed with water is sold as ready-to-drink almond milk.”

'We are offering a food system where production can be quickly moved where it is needed'

According to Kristensen, its PPBs revolutionize the food processing industry because during the last 50 years, raw food powder materials and blended products were transported around the globe.

We are offering a food system that operates in the opposite way. One, where production can be quickly moved where it is needed; to produce food products anywhere in the world and by anybody in the value chain,” he added.

If we add the Blendhub Corp. service model with, among others, quality control 24/7 in the cloud, we have a real possibility of producing high quality food in any country in the world, needing only minimum infrastructure and low power supply; a real possibility of supporting local production using local raw materials and handled by local people; and a real possibility of moving the factory to the location which responds to the supply and demand of food powder blends at the lowest possible price.

The PPB can be transported in a 40" container and be fully operational in less than six months with a low investment.”

A PPB plant can be launched via three packages

A PPB plant can be launched via three packages; Master - through this way to market the PPB can be used by Blendhub Corp. to blend its own formulations; by an innovation test center for its own and other formulations, and by companies not wanting to blend themselves.

The JV/ Franchise where a PPB can be set up by people or companies who want to start a business themselves; or companies who want to blend themselves but want to avoid CAPEX and other operation costs.

The third option is through Sales - this package is for people or companies who want to spend CAPEX on a new business and where food powder blending and IP protection is strategic.

Cost saving is directly proportionate to the total volume of production. We maintain that with a volume of 2000t per year, we save more than 10% of productive costs,” said Kristensen.

The PPB includes a traceability system in its MES (manufacturing execution systems) that also analyze the ingredients to be processed to organize the production and define the different cleaning process needed to avoid crossing contamination. This system also records the traceability from raw material reception to each final product.

The PPB can be complemented with a module that allows liquid injection (up to 10 liquids as flavors, fats, colors, etc.) during the blending stage, getting fluid and easy to handle powder products.”
