Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific has announced plans to build a multi-million dollar packaging plant in the Philippines.

The factory is expected to be operational by 2016 and will manufacture packaging for a multinational consumer brand.

Important focus for the firm

FoodProductionDaily.com contacted Amcor for further comment but the company declined to release any more information.

In a statement, Ralf Wunderlich, president, Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, said Asia is an emerging market which remains an important focus for the firm.

Emerging Asia remains an important focus for Amcor Flexibles and with 38 plants in eight countries today, our presence in the Asia Pacific region will continue to grow both organically and through acquisitions,” he said.

Our growth is supported by a solid foundation of delivering high quality, safe and innovative packaging.”

The investment builds on the existing strategic partnership with the undisclosed brand, and delivers direct in-country production, improving Amcor’s speed-to-market in the Filipino market.

Five platforms

The company believes the partnership will enable the packaging company to support growth in the Philippines and bring benefits to the local community.

Amcor introduced five platforms to streamline its flexibles business in October; N-Gage; AmFlow; AmPET; AmLock and VisualCan.

Marco Hilty, VP, marketing and R&D, Amcor Flexibles Europe & Americas, said at the time there was no change in the organization but it wants to grow in its area of speciality and streamline its business following a number of acquisitions.

The company also bought Bella Prima Packaging, an Indonesian flexible packaging business, for A$27m in May.

Bella Prima has two plants in Jakarta specialising in shrink sleeve, label and lidding. Sales in CY2013 were A$30m.
