Tate & Lyle celebrates Winway deal with new Chinese polydextrose plant
The deal with the fibre manufacturer was rubber-stamped at the start of August, and now Tate & Lyle has revealed it plans to invest further in the Nantong facility over the next two years to expand its capacity and enhance its offerings.
Nantong is the company’s third polydextrose facility, with existing lines in the Netherlands and America.
“The acquisition of Winway, and the establishment of a polydextrose manufacturing facility in China, provides Tate & Lyle with an excellent platform from which to accelerate the growth of its specialty fibres business in Asia-Pacific and to expand its health and wellness offering globally,” Leo Liu, general manager of Tate & Lyle’s regional speciality food ingredients business, said.
One of Tate & Lyle’s growing range of speciality fibres which includes Promitor soluble corn and gluco fibre and PromOat beta glucan, polydextrose is a premium, low-calorie bulking agent and dietary fibre. It plays a key role in replacing the technical functionality of sugar, providing bulk, body, texture and mouthfeel in reduced calorie, no-added-sugar and high fibre foods.
A soluble dietary fibre with prebiotic properties, polydextrose helps support gastrointestinal health, is very well tolerated, has a low glycemic and blood glucose response, and is clean tasting and easy to use, Tate & Lyle said in a statement.
