ADM has added two sunflower-sourced, non-GMO versions to its vitamin E portfolio targeting foods, drinks and food supplements and the “world’s first commercially available sunflower-based succinate form of vitamin E.”

Natural source vitamin E (D-alpha tocopherol) is more expensive but has greater bioavailability than synthetic  vitamin E.

ADM said its Kosher, Halal antioxidant had “reduced susceptibility to degradation allowing for increased flexibility in product formulations.”

“These benefits have given rise to the creation of d-alpha tocopheryl acid succinate, the world’s first commercially available sunflower-based succinate form of vitamin E.”

It said the D-alpha tocopherol additions to its Novatol range were particularly suited to premium foods and drinks and softgel food supplement capsules as well as tablets.

Mike Zora, general manager for ADM’s WILD Flavors & Specialty Ingredients business unit in the US said in a statement: “With our naturally sourced vitamin E solutions, we can helpmanufacturers address many consumer health concerns such as the protection of cells from oxidative stress and the increase of antioxidant activity.”

In the European Union there is an approved claim that states: Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress”.
