In pictures: China's new draft food safety regulations
Role of government
This week, China’s Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) has released a revised draft of the new Food Safety Law on its website, asking for public input by November 29.
“This is just a draft and is not very detailed from the China side,” Jeff Crowther, executive director of the US-China Health Products Association, told Food-Navigator-Asia.
“They only mention that the detailed implementation regulations, which spell out more clearly how the regulations will operate and how industry must follow said regulations, will be published later by the State Council. My sources say these details won't come out until next year some time.”
Here, we look at some of the main points of the CFDA’s 22,000-character document.
- Our thanks to the US-China Health Products Association for translating the document and providing us with a synopsis of its key elements. The association has been working with the US government and their Chinese counterparts to encourage further development of the dietary supplement industry.
