Technology 'excludes the possibility' of insects surviving in NAN follow-on formula: Nestlé India
Technology used to produce NAN PRO-3 follow-on formula "excludes the possibility" of insects surviving in packaging, says Nestlé India.

Nestlé India issued a statement following reports a consumer found live insect larvae in a 400g pack of NAN PRO-3 follow-on formula.

The New Indian Express reported that tests conducted by the Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration on the NAN PRO-3 follow-on formula in question contained 28 live larvae and 22 rice weevils.

Nestlé India insisted, however, that the processes employed to produce NAN PRO-3 follow-on formula "excludes the possibility of insects living and surviving in the sealed package in which this product is sold."

The pack of NAN PRO-3 in question contained 28 live larvae and 22 rice weevils, according to reports.

"We have in place strict food quality and safety procedures, including pest control and quality checks at the different stages of our manufacturing and storage process," it said.

"Shortly before the package is sealed, any remaining oxygen is completely removed as part of the manufacturing process to maintain the product's freshness and nutritional value."

While it is aware of the reports, Nestlé India said it had not been contacted by the consumer or Indian authorities in relation to the matter.

Despite this, it said it is "making every effort to obtain the information we need in order to investigate this consumer complaint."
