American donut major Krispy Kreme has announced it will open its first franchise in India later this week. The maiden store, in Bangalore, will be the first of 80 retail locations planned by the chain to open over the next five years in the south and west of the country.

Citymax Hotels, part of the Dubai-based Landmark Group, will act as franchisee, having signed a partnership with Krispy Kreme in June last year.

"Our partnership with Citymax Hotels represents the extraordinary growth opportunity we believe exists for the Krispy Kreme brand in India," said Jeff Welch, Krispy Kreme’s president of international business.

Welch added that Citymax and Krispy Kreme will work together to develop new donut lines that are designed to suit the Indian palate.
